Easy Crocheted Bathroom Organizer

I love anything that helps me be organized. One thing that has been bothering me lately is getting cotton balls.  Kind of a stupid thing to bother me but it does.  I decided, instead of having to go in my cupboard every time to grab the little piece of cotton, I was going to keep it by my makeup holder. Now I just needed something to put them in.  Searching around the house for a container I could use, I came across an old candle.  Remembering THIS previous post my sister did, I EASILY removed the old wax.  It was exactly what I was looking for.  Now to make the cover....

WHAT I DID:

I used a size 6mm hook.

Chain 4.

Slip stitch into 1st chain.

Ch 1, work 6 sc into center- 7 stitches

Ch 2, work dc in same stitch. *2 dc in every stitch* slip stitch top of ch 2.- 14 stitches

Ch 2, work dc in same stitch. *2 dc in every stitch* slip stitch top of ch 2.- 28 stitches

Change colors

Ch 1, sc in every stitch.  Slip stitch top of ch 1.- 28 stitches

Ch 2, dc in same stitch, dc in next stitch, dc2tog * dc in next 3 stitches, dc2tog in next stitch* repeat until end. Slip stitch in top of ch 2.-23 stitches.

Ch 2.  dc in next stitch, dc in every stitch. Slip stitch top of ch 2.  

Fasten off.  Weave in tail.

Crocheted Tennessee Vols Beanie

Watching the Superbowl last weekend, I bet I can easily say I was not the only one that was not completely captivated by the happenings.  Very sad to say, but it's true.  A few friends and myself were more inclined to sit around the table with the massive amounts of wings and appetizers and visit.

During this visiting (and eating) session, it came up that I like to crochet.  My one friend was "yelling" at me because I had yet to make him a beanie! :)

He is a big Tennessee Vols fan (I bet he would have liked to be watching one of their games instead of the "BIG GAME". ) so I decided to make him this so he could sport his teams colors!

This is my first time writing my own pattern, so if I made a mistake, please let me know so I can make necessary changes!

5.5. mm hook- medium worsted yarn

ORANGE

Ch 5, sl st into first ch

R1: IN the middle of the loop, work 12 dc, sl st in the top of your first dc- 12 st

R2: Ch 2, 1 dc in same stitch that you did your sl st, *2 dc in every st*- repeat from * all the way around, sl st the top of your 2 chains - 24 st

R3: Ch 2, *2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next stitch*- repeat from * all the way around, sl st the top of your 2 chains- 36 st

R4: Ch 2, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in the next stitch, *1 dc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the same st* repeat from *all the way around, sl st the top of your 2 chains- 48 st

R5: Ch 2, 1 dc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st *1 dc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the same st* - repeat from * all the way around, sl st the top of your 2 chains- 60 st

R6: Ch 2, 1 dc in the next 8 st, 2 dc in same stitch * 1 dc in the next 9 st, 2 dc in the same st* - repeat from * all the way around, sl st the top of your 2 chains- 66 st

R7: Ch 2, 1 dc in every stitch all the way around, sl st the top of your 2 chains- 66 st

R8: Ch 2, 1 dc in every stitch all the way around, sl st the top of your 2 chains- 66 st

R9: Ch 2, 1 dc in every stitch all the way around, sl st the top of your 2 chains- 66 st

R10: Ch 2, 1 dc in every stitch all the way around, sl st the top of your 2 chains- 66 st

CHANGE COLOR: BLACK

R11:  With the changed color, Ch 2, dc in every st except towards the back of the hat work 3 decreases (by dc2tog in 3 st) - 63 st

CHANGE COLOR- WHITE

R12: With changed color, Ch 1, sc in every stitch all the way around, sl st the top of your 1 chain- 63 st.

R13: Ch 1, sc in every st all the way around, sl st the top of your 1 chain- 63 st.

R 14: Ch 1, sc in every st all the way around, sl st the top of your 1 chain- 63 st.

R15: Ch 1, sc in every st all the way around, sl st the top of your 1 chain- 63 st.

R16: Ch 1, sc in every st all the way around, sl st the top of your 1 chain- 63 st.

R 17: Ch 1, sc in every st all the way around, sl st the top of your 1 chain- 63 st.

CHANGE COLOR- BLACK

R18: With changed color, Ch 2, dc in every st all the way around, sl st the top of your 2 chains- 63 st.

FINISHING:    I used sc on the white part so it would be easier to sew the T. This obviously is optional but because this hat was for a VOLS fan, I decided to give it a try.  Using a yarn needle, I sewed the T to the best of my ability. I inserted the needle from the back.  After completeing my design, I finished it off.

Weave in yarn strands.

D.I.Y. Crocheted Toddler Winter Set

We all have those little nieces and nephews that are too far away for our liking!  Well mine happens to be my god daughter as well.  Sad that I couldn't be with her for her birthday, I decided to make her something special.  I love home made gifts.  I guess I am just sentimental like that. :)

It's been very cold in Minnesota so I decided on making her this winter set.  I thought it was adorable. I hope she likes it. :)

These are very easy pieces to do.  As I stated in my other blogs, I am just learning how to crochet so with the help of some great tutorials and a free pattern on lionbrand.com, I made the hat and the mittens.  As for the scarf, I didn't follow a pattern.  Old habits die hard. :)

Please see Lion Brand: Frosty Mittens- Pattern #: L20305.  This site has many great patterns for free.  (The only thing I don't like about this pattern is there is a hole left to make movement of the thumb easier.  You can't see it unless you spread your thumb out.  I think they are really cute mittens though and in the future I may customize that part a little bit to my liking.  I just thought I should note this so you don't think you missed a step or something when your project is complete.)

For the scarf:
Ch 104
R1: Dc in 4th chain from hook, dc in every ch until end. 
R2: Ch 3, turn, working in both loops dc in every ch until end. 
Repeat R2 until desired thickness.
I went around the whole scarf with a slip stitch because I thought it would look cute.  This is optional. 

DIY Basket Weave Crocheted Potholder

The other night I was wandering through YouTube tutorials to teach me new crochet stitches. I decided to try the Basket Weave. It started out as just a test but after a bit I decided to make it a potholder. :)

I used THIS YouTube tutorial to help me.  Because I didn't have a pattern, I just kept crocheting until I made a size I liked.  After completing the basket weave, I went around the edge with a slip stitch.  If you do not know how to do a slip stitch, check out THIS SITE.

It is a very easy project.  Don't let the look of it scare you off. :)

Crocheted Beanie with Flowers

I have always loved to crochet.  I remember when my mom taught me how to do it when I was a little girl.  I will share, the first time I accurately completed my first double crochet, I was watching a New Kids on the Block concert on our big box television.  Yes, I am willingly dating myself. :)

Although I have always loved crocheting, the extent of my projects consisted of blankets and very weird looking "booties".  I didn't think it was necessary to use a pattern.   To be honest, it wasn't that I didn't think I needed a pattern, in so much as it was confusing for me to read!  Anyone else feel like this? Walking through the yarn isle, you see pretty colors and think, I can do that....then you pick up a book and see terms like sl st...dc...ch(s)...and you think--"I will just stick to blankets." :) 

I finally told myself that I was going to learn a little more.  Let me tell you people, I have a long way to go but Google and YouTube are our friends.  It is so nice.  When you have a question, they are so handy.  There are so many tutorials that give you step by step instructions.  

So let's stop telling ourselves we can't do something.  If we want to learn--learn! :)

BASIC BEANIE WITH DOUBLE CROCHETED SHELL BORDER with optional FLOWERS

As I mentioned above, to help learn how to accomplish those "terms", I used THIS SITE.  You can click on the term in question, and it leads you to step by step instructions--with pictures!!  How easy! :)

Make a slip knot. If you do not know how to do that, click HERE.

Ch 4, join with a sl st in beg ch to form a ring.

R1: ch 1, work 6 sc in a ring, join with sl st in beg ch.

R2: ch 1, 2 sc in each sc, join with sl st in beg ch, 12 sc.

R3: ch 1, *sc in next sc, 2 sc; rep from * around, join with sl st in beg ch, 18 sc.

R4: ch 1, *sc in each of the next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around, join with a sl st in beg ch, 24 sc.

R5: ch 1, *sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around, join with a sl st in beg ch, 30 sc.

R6: ch 1, *sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around, join with a sl st in beg ch, 36 sc.

I stopped this pattern after row 10.

R11:  Double crochet in each sc around, sl st in beg ch.

R12:  Dc in each sc around, sl st in beg ch.

R13: Dc in each sc around, sl st in beg ch.

R14: Dc in each sc around, sl st in beg ch.

R15: Dc in each sc around, sl st in beg ch.

R16: Dc in each sc around, sl st in beg ch.

R17: Dc in each sc around, sl st in beg ch.

Next, I did a Half Double Crochet Shell to make the bottom look pretty.  To do that...

sl st in first st.  (Skip the next st, work 5 hdc in the next st, skip next st, sl st in the next st.) Repeat sequence in parentheses until you've reached the end.  You'll end this row with a sl st.  Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Below, I added a picture of the 2 flowers attached together.  Attaching the flowers, I didn't use a tutorial. I just winged it.  Back to my 'not using a pattern' habit. :)  After attaching the flowers together, I decided where I wanted it placed on my hat and, once again, winging it, I attached it. :)
